Obituary for Delman Amiel Campbell
Delman Amiel Campbell, age 87 of Council Bluffs, passed away February 10, 2017 at Midlands Living Center. He was born on January 13, 1930 in rural Pottawattamie County to Clifford and Alta (Smith) Campbell; who preceded him in death. Del was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1998. Del served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He returned to Council Bluffs and began work at his father's insurance company in 1954 taking over as President in 1970. He continued to work there for 63 years until the time of his death. He married the former Donna Vestal on August 1, 1954 in Council Bluffs, IA and together they raised four children. Carolyn Robison and husband Denny, Kirk Campbell and wife Rachele, Scott Campbell and wife Lisa, Missy Schreiber and husband John; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents He was preceded in death by his wife Donna; Step mother Mildred Campbell; siblings June Cooper, Kenneth Campbell, Wendell Campbell, and Darlene Perry and special friend Mary Pratt. Del was a member of the Mineola #705 and CB #002 Legion Posts, Bluffs City Lodge #71(Past Worshipful Master), CB Noon Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow since 2002), Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Tangier Temple, Tangier Shrine Chanters, and the Botna Valley Shrine Club. He served the community as a member of the Board of Directors for the CB YMCA (President 1968-1972), AEA 13, and Westfair (President 1981-1985). He also volunteered as a member serving on the CB School Board, Iowa Wescorp Association, Iowa West Foundation, and as Chairman for the Shrine Hospital Benefit Days from 1991-2012. Del was honored with the YMCA Richard Porter Leadership Award, Westfair 31 year Service Recognition Award, Westfair Hall of Fame, and Rotarian of the Year 2013-2014. Del was a long time member of Broadway United Methodist Church.
