Obituary for Ervin John 'Bones' Ernst
Ervin John “Bones” Ernst, age 80, of Council Bluffs, passed away September 28, 2012 at Regency Rehabilitation. Ervin was born July 5, 1932 in Council Bluffs to John and Amy Pearl (Blythe) Ernst. Ervin grew up in Council Bluffs and at age 15, he was so eager to serve his country, he fibbed about his age and joined the National Guard where he completed his high school education. Ervin eventually joined the Army serving as a medical corpsman in Korea which earned him his lifelong nickname of “Bones”. In his younger days, he was also a boxer and became and remained an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan. Ervin is survived by his brother Earl Ernst; sisters Delores Raus and Viola Rowland. Numerous nieces and nephews.
