Obituary for Frederick LeRoy Heck
Frederick LeRoy Heck, 85 of Council Bluffs passed away December 9, 2017 at Northcrest Living Center. Fred was born in Council Bluffs on October 27, 1932 to Rollie and Lucille (Cooley) Heck who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother Donald in 1980 and a nephew Lance Heck. Fred was a 1950 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and after graduation joined the Air Force, serving from 1952 to 1956.Upon his discharge, Fred enrolled at the University of Toledo and then transferred to the University of Omaha. Fred worked as a carpenter at SAC Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base for over 30 years. Prior to that he was a carman for the Union Pacific Railroad. Fred was active in his church serving as an elder and with the Presbyterian Men and was one of the original founders of Habitat for Humanity in Council Bluffs. He is survived by his wife Mary Gardner, who he married on June 18, 1954; daughters Kathleen Reeves, Virginia Humphreys and her husband Bobby and Carole Heck; grandson Matthew Massey Reeves; sister-in-law Bernice Heck; nephew Don Heck and niece Peggy Crook and husband Richard; other family and friends.
