Obituary for John William Mahlberg
John William Mahlberg, age 65 of Council Bluffs, passed away June 19, 2018 at his home. He was born August 7, 1952 in Dunlap, IA to Henry and Norine (Walton) Mahlberg, Jr.; who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, John is also preceded in death by his sister-in-law Carrie Mahlberg. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pat (Sanders) Mahlberg; children Ron Mahlberg and wife Shannon, daughter Sheena Mahlberg; three grandchildren; siblings Joe Mahlberg, Nancy Langfeldt and husband Don, Jeff Mahlberg and wife Linda, Jerry Mahlberg, Matt Mahlberg and wife Julie, Kathy Goede and husband Dave, Jan Duschanek and husband John, Ed Mahlberg and wife Amy, Andy Mahlberg and wife Robin, Christy Mumm and husband Curt; stepchildren Debbie Landes, Kathy Steenson, and Randy Utterback; nieces, nephews, and many friends. John was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dunlap, IA. He made his First Communion and was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, IA. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Scholl and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1971. He was married to Karen Musich of Westphali, IA,. One child, Ron, was born to this union. After John & Karen parted ways, John became a father to a daughter, Sheena. On September 9, 1987 John was united in marriage to Pat Sanders. John enjoyed golf and fishing. He was a huge fan of baseball and had a large collection of baseball cards. He especially loved the College World Series and attended every year. He was the #1 fan of the Rice baseball team. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He hosted an annual 4th of July pool party at his home for family.
