Obituary for Mildred Ruth Moore
Mildred (Millie) R Moore, age 87, formerly of Council Bluffs, passed away September 7, 2013 at Douglas County Health Center in Omaha, NE. Millie was born in Soldier, KS on November 14, 1925 to Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Cusic) Rogers, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister Mattel Laughlin. Millie grew up on a dairy farm in Soldier, KS where she was very active in 4-H, Methodist Church and school. She graduated in 1943 and continued to work on the farm until moving to Omaha, NE in 1948. She met her husband Donald while working at the Omar Bakery in Omaha and they were married 59 years until his death in 2008. They had four children. Millie worked as a typist for World Insurance Company in Omaha for 35 years, retiring in 1982. At that time, Don was working for the City of Council Bluffs as a Park Ranger at the Lewis and Clark Monument. Over the 18 years at the monument, they met many wonderful people and had many fond memories. After retiring from the City, they moved to Pacific Junction, IA to live with their daughter Karen and husband Keith. After being retired for many years, Don and Millie began working at the Glenwood Middle School as janitors for 5 more years, finally retiring at age 80 because of Don’s health. Millie loved her family, her church, crocheting, music and cooking. She was a self-taught pianist and learned to play the guitar after retiring. She is well known for her beautiful smile. Millie is survived by her children; Loren Moore and wife Marlene, Donald Moore and wife Irene, Karen Callaway and husband Keith, David Moore and wife Rose, sisters; Thelma Padilla, Lena Lou Hughes, and Twyla Burroughs, grandchildren; Gwendolyn Wagner and husband Dean, Krystal Callaway-Neppl and husband Sean, Kristopher Callaway, Nicholas, Jared and Heath Moore, Josh Kahrs and wife Addi, great-granddaughters; Jordan Wagner, Joslyn and Elisa Neppl.
Cemetery: Interment will be in the Glenwood, IA Cemetery.
