William Louis Bishop, Jr., 84 of Council Bluffs went to be with his loving wife Lavon on August 17, 2012. Bill missed being with her since her death on August 27, 2004. He was born on September 2, 1927 in Council Bluffs to William and Abbie (Brown) Bishop. Bill worked as a farmhand and served both in the Merchant Marine and the Army during WWII. Bill married the love of his life, Lavon Fige, on May 29, 1950 and after living briefly in Missouri Valley they moved to Council Bluffs and raised their two sons. Bill worked at the UP Railroad on bridges and byways and loved to tell stories about his adventures. In his later years, he became a member of Community In Action Church and was a friend of the entire congregation. Bill loved to chat and drink coffee at many local businesses that he visited on his daily “rounds”. An avid animal lover, he will be sorely missed by his cherished cats. Bill is survived by his sons William, III and David; grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many friends.
