Obituary for Yvonne Overton
Yvonne Overton, age 91 of Council Bluffs, passed away April 1, 2012 at Regency Rehabilitation Center. Yvonne was born November 13, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Hilda (Haas) Scheffler on a farm near Minden, IA. Her parents lived on different farms in Shelby County and she attended country schools, the Shelby, IA grade school and went to the Tennant IA High School where she graduated in 1939. After graduation, she went to Harlan, IA where she worked in a clothing store. Yvonne married Victor Overton in 1949 and they moved to Mapleton, IA in 1951and then to Council Bluffs in 1953. They had three children; Alan (who died of a heart disorder in 1971), Donald, and Joyce. Yvonne was a stay-at-home mother until the youngest child was in junior high; then she took a job as executive housekeeper at the Howard Johnson Motor Lodge where she worked until she retired in 1986. After retirement, Yvonne enjoyed traveling with Vic throughout the United States. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and their Nitengal Circle. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer for Jennie Edmundson Hospital for a number of years until she developed arthritis and was forced to quit. Yvonne is survived by her husband Victor Overton; son Donald Overton and wife Linda of Omaha; daughter Joyce Morgan and husband Jack, of Farragut, IA; grandson Matthew Overton and wife Jessica; of Omaha, granddaughter Rachael Schupbach and husband Brian of Chicago, IL; brother Omer Scheffler and wife Shirley of Harlan, IA; sister Twyla Sorensen and husband Marvin of Golden, CO.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
