Obituary for Ronald 'Ron' C. Smith
Ronald Ron C. Smith, age 89, of Council Bluffs, passed away April 27, 2009 at his home after an extended illness.
Ron was born July 11, 1919 in Oakland, Iowa to Wayne and Leta (Humbert) Smith. He was raised in the Oakland area and attended area schools. On October 24, 1940 he was united in marriage to Margaret Rust and to that union were born eight children. When World War II broke out Ron enlisted in the Army and served his country as a heavy equipment operator in the Phillipine Islands and was Honorably Discharged at the end of the war. Rons had career with the C&NW railroad for nearly 20 years. He worked several years at Playland Park in maintenance and as an operator of major rides then with closing of the park he went back to his first love of farming.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents, sons Larry and Danny, grandsons Chad and Albert, brothers: Robert, Kenneth, Raymond, Chester, Lyle, Harold and Floyd, and sister Opal.
Ron will be sadly missed by his daughters Suzanne Grego, Kathryn Wise and husband LeeRoy, and Connie Rothermund and husband Ronnie, Sons: Ronald Smith, John Smith and Dennis Smith and wife Nancy all of Council Bluffs, daughters-in-law Julie Barr of Council Bluffs; Linda Smith of Lancaster, CA, special friend Mike; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Cemetery:
Interment to follow at Crescent Cemetery in Crescent, Iowa with military rites by American Legion Rainbow Post #2.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held 6-8pm, Thursday at Maher-Livingston Funeral Home

Service:
Funeral service will be held 2pm, Friday at the funeral home.
