Obituary for Ina Winters
Ina Elnora Winters, the daughter of Lane and Ina (Grammar) Morse, was born December 19, 1934 in Hastings, IA. Ina died March 22, 2015 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE at the age of 80. Ina attended school in the Emerson/Glenwood areas. On November 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Duane (Sam) Winters. They lived in the Emerson area until they moved to Oakland, IA in 1965. Ina’s final years were spent living in Council Bluffs with her children. Ina was a member of the Oakland Christian Church and the Pythian Sisters. She was also an advocate for the Iowa and Nebraska Kidney Foundations focusing on kidney disease, dialysis, and transplant awareness. Ina was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren even through her two kidney transplants and dialysis. Ina loved to bake bread and was very famous at potlucks for her chicken and noodles! Ina’s smile was unwavering and infectious. She would light up a room! Ina was known for her unconditional love and acceptance, honesty, patience, integrity, and humor; along with her strong will. Ina’s great gift for hospitality was evident in her love of hosting family “get-togethers”. Ina was preceded in death by her husband Sam; her parents; one brother; three sisters; and two grandchildren. Ina is survived by her four children; Cheri and Robert Tye of Council Bluffs, Pam and Kenton Bates of Council Bluffs, Greg Winters and Betty Novotny of Omaha, Steve and Cindy Winters of Omaha; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ina adopted many by love and considered herself an “extra mom and grandma” to many. She will be missed by all who knew her.
